Instructional Technology Utilization Survey of Mid-Western Adult Literacy Programs

Key Findings: Technology Use of Programs

Thirty-one percent of the programs surveyed already consider themselves to have significant use of computers. Fifty-four percent have limited use at present, but would like to expand, while only 6% have limited use and are not planning on expanding.

Computers are used often or daily in 93% of the programs. Nearly 50% of programs use computers for instructional preparation activities often or daily, with another 32% using them sometimes. About 42% of programs have students using the computers often or daily. About 16% rarely or never use computers for student instruction. Forty-four percent of the programs use computers rarely or never for networking purposes. About 30% use computers often or daily for networking purposes.

Both full time staff members or full time technology specialists provide technical support and assistance for about 24% of the programs surveyed. The next most popular form of technical assistance comes from outside consultants, with 20% of the programs using this option.
