Instructional Technology Utilization Survey of Mid-Western Adult Literacy Programs John Sabatini, Senior Researcher About 42% of the programs surveyed (65 of 154) use 10 or fewer total computers for adult literacy activities of any kind (that is, administrative, instructional, assessment or networking activities). About 20% (30 of 154) have between 21 and 50, roughly enough for 1 to 3 computer labs.
The predominant operating systems are Windows95, Windows, and DOS. Approximately the same number of programs report using Apple IIe computers as Macintosh Systems.
About 79% of programs report using color monitors with their computers, and about 68% also have CD-ROM capabilities. The next most popular peripheral is the modem at 45%.
Nearly two thirds (66%) of programs surveyed feel their computers are adequate for the present, with one third feeling their computers are of inadequate quality. Of those whose computer quality is adequate, the majority see the need for upgrades in the future.
