Biography Janet C. Smith is the Editor and Webmaster at NCAL/ILI at the Graduate School of Education/University of Pennsylvania. She holds an AB in art history from Smith College, an MA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in medieval art and architecture. She has received several post-doctoral fellowships, from Princeton University and New York University, as well as awards for her professional writing. In merging her architecture and technology interests, Dr. Smith initiated and briefly maintained the website for the Society of Architectural Historians, and sponsored the creation of a Society listserv. Dr. Smith currently organizes, edits, and manages production of reports, newsletters, and other print products from the Literacy Research Centers, in addition to being responsible for the content and organization of the Literacy Online website. Her major project at the moment is the International Literacy Explorer website/CD-ROM, a staff development tool designed to give an overview of literacy issues and practices in an international context.
