Meriden Public Schools Adult and Continuing Education: Technology-facilitated Lesson Plan (MS Excel)*

Teacher: David Ullman, Business

Class/Level: General Computer Applications

Lesson Duration: 20 minutes

Objectives (Learning Goals):

Learn how to create a chart in MS Excel.

Rationale:

Charts enable the user to portray information in a visual manner such as trends and percentages. Students who plan to go to college or those who plan to enter the workforce will benefit from the ability to create such charts as they are commonplace in today’s technological society.

Technologies Used:

Using MS Excel loaded into an IBM and projected through a Panasonic SV20 projector I searched www.bargainnews.com to create a list of cars and their prices. The list was used to generate a bar graph comparing models.

Other Materials:

None

Learning and Teaching Activities:

After the lesson the students were given an exercise to complete on their own using the skill they had just learned in class. Later that week that were given a quiz that tested this skill as well as other learned on subsequent days.

Evaluation of Learning:

Learning was evaluated through the exercises, the quiz and through a test that is given that integrates all the lessons learned.
