Teachers:
Jeanette Cuevas, Waterbury Adult Education
Class/Level:

Objectives (Learning Goals):
The students should be able to be familiar with agencies in their community and to identify community services in the area. (Hospital, police, fire, public school, library, social services agencies, etc.)
Rationale:
Availability of community services vary around
the world.
Technologies Used:
- StarBoard
- Internet Sites
- Digital Projector
- Laptop
Other Materials:
Contemporary English (pages 21-29)
New Oxford Picture Dictionary (pages 42-45)
English in Action (pages 66-71)
Lifelines (pages 50-55)
Learning and Teaching Activities:
I would first introduce vocabulary by displaying
a large map of a community with community services on the board.
Then, label each community service on an index card. Orally review
each word stating a service available to each. Students will repeat.
Quiz students on words. I will also label each community service
on the map with the index card so that the students have an idea
where each card goes, then the index card will be remove from
the map and I will allow student volunteers to label the community
services with the index card. In addition, the student will practice
information questions.
Evaluation of Learning:
Students will identify community services and
state a service available at each venue.
