Waterbury Adult Education: Technology-facilitated Lesson Plan (Filling Out a Job Application)*

Teachers: Robert Sugrue, ESL

Class/Level: Intermediate

Lesson Duration: 3 hours

Objectives (Learning Goals):

To have students develop a better understanding of how to fill out a job application form.

Rationale:

Basic Skills: Students will learn vocabulary and idioms associated with employment forms. Students will learn how to describe in writing their educational/work histories using the appropriate vocabulary and correct syntax in simple sentences.

Life Skills: Students will be able to fill out a sample job application form using the skills and information learned in class.

Technologies Used:

Learning and Teaching Activities:

Teacher will engage students in warm-up conversation regarding their employment experiences, job skills and career goals. Students will complete the Career Decision Pre-Test in Plato Pathways using the wireless laptops. Teachers will reinforce concepts by doing tutorial that accompanies the pre-test. Instruction mode will be by group using StarBoard. After the tutorial, students will complete a sample job application form in class.

Evaluation of Learning:

On-going teacher monitoring.

Comments:

The students produced interesting information that they shared. I would like to have a few additional computer systems in the ABE Resource room.
