Training Agenda

Introduction - 9:00-9:30
  • Outline of day's activities
  • Setting goals for the day
  • Introduction to PDK
    • Background - who created PDK and for what purposes
    • Structure/Content - what it includes (CD-ROM and website; topics)
Getting Started - 9:30-10:00
  • PDK Tour from CD-ROM, projected on screen
  • Registration and logging in
  • Online Basic Tutorial - this outlines site features and navigation
  • Review of PDK organization and navigation
Case Study Exploration - 10:00-11:00
  • View an assigned video case study and consider the questions provided by the facilitator
  • Explore the Class Products and Related Resources for the case study
  • In small groups, discuss answers to the questions and observations of the case study
Break - 11:00-11:15

Investigating Your Practice - 11:15-12:00
  • Discussion of investigative practice
  • Outline of the PDK teacher research process and how it will be implemented in this group
  • Demonstration of project folder creation
  • Participants create personal project folders and begin brainstorming questions to investigate in their own classrooms
Lunch - 12:00-1:00

Topic Area Exploration - 1:00-2:00
  • View one set of topic area videos in a small group
  • Participants discuss their observations of the teachers' approaches to the topic, any other issues they noted in the videos, and their own strategies surrounding the topic
  • Navigate to the Knowledge Databases and locate articles that deal with the topic discussed
  • Small groups present a summary of their discussion to the whole group
PDK Community - 2:00-2:30
  • Introduction to the collaborative features of PDK
  • Formation of a discussion group
Evaluation and Wrap Up - 2:30-3:00
  • Complete the evaluation form
  • Group discussion of the training session and progress on the goals identified at the beginning of the day
