TV411 Training Module

1. Introduction

1. Distribute the Agenda (Word doc), notepaper, and a pen to each participant. Present a brief overview of the day’s schedule.

2. Engage participants’ knowledge of TV411. Has anyone ever heard of TV411? When? What do you know? Has anyone used TV411? In what context? Was your experience successful?

3. Introduce the history of TV411. Encourage participants to share what they already know, then fill in the blanks yourself.

  • Who created it
  • Who it’s for
  • When and where it is broadcast in your area

4. Introduce the materials. Present each medium with a brief description then pass them around and allow participants to spend some time reviewing them.

  • TV411 Videos
  • TV411 In Print Workbooks
  • TV411 Teacher's Guide
  • TV411 Index
  • TV411 Online www.tv411.org

5. On a flipchart, write the question “Why would I use TV411 in my classroom?’ Let participants brainstorm ideas. Write all ideas on the flip chart. Keep to review at the end of the session.

6. Refer back to the Agenda. Look at “How would I use TV411 in my classroom?” Explain that there are countless ways to incorporate TV411 into the ESL classroom. The four listed are the ones that will be investigated and modeled during the day. Encourage participants to take notes of any ideas to expand or adapt the ideas presented. We will discuss them at the end of the session.
