Writing Training Module: Using the Professional Development Kit (PDK)

Home

This training module is a resource for professional developers who want to help teachers in adult education programs teach writing more effectively. The module contains

• detailed information about the materials and preparation necessary to conduct the workshop,
• annotated agendas for each session in the workshops, and
• links to many adult education resources.

The suggested framework for this module includes a 2-day, face-to-face kick-off meeting, several weeks of online collaboration, and then a 2-day, face-to-face wrap-up session. The framework, based on project-based learning theory, includes a classroom-based investigation of teaching practice conducted by each teacher. The module makes use of the Professional Devlopment Kit (PDK) developed by NCAL.

Please note that facilitator comments appear throughout this training module. These "asides"

  • offer crucial background information,
  • describe underlying rationales,
  • present specific implementation advice, and/or
  • discuss common user reactions to training activities.
